Luther College SAC presents Mason Jennings Feb. 10
Luther College Student Activities Council Spotlight and Concert committees will present American pop-folk singer-songwriter Mason Jennings Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life Main Hall on the Luther campus.

Luther receives $85,979 grant for permeable pavement construction
Luther College has been awarded an $85,979 grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to replace the asphalt paving of an existing 24,600-square-foot parking on the Luther campus with a more environmentally beneficial permeable surface.
The grant money will pay a major part of the cost of removing the current 120-foot by 205-foot asphalt parking surface, grading the base, and constructing a two-section permeable concrete parking surface. The lot will be graded to direct run-off water away from nearby residential properties. Read more
Wailin’ Jennys to perform Feb. 20 at Luther College
Luther College Center Sage Series will bring the Wailin’ Jennys to the Center for Faith and Life stage for a concert performance on Saturday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. The Decorah appearance is part of the 30-city tour by the Billboard chart-topping folk-Celtic-bluegrass-bluesy music trio from Canada.
Tickets go on sale Thursday, Feb. 4 online at http://centerstage.luther.edu. Ticket price is $22, $20 for seniors age 65 and over, $15 for youth age 4-18. Read more
Luther to host ‘Energy Idle’ concert Feb. 6 at Marty’s CyberCafé
Luther College will host “Energy Idle,” a concert to kick-off the college’s energy competition month, Saturday, Feb. 6 at 9 p.m. in Marty’s CyberCafé located in Dahl Centennial Union on the Luther campus.
The Decorah-area community is invited to join Luther’s Environmental Concerns Organization and Luther College Sustainability for an evening of fun, entertainment and information about the energy competition. The concert is open to the public with no charge for admission. Read more
Renowned string quartet to perform March 4 at Luther College
The renowned Parker Quartet will perform in concert at Luther College on Thursday, March 4 as part of Minnesota Public Radio’s Artists-In-Residence Tour.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. performance in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Music Hall are now on sale online at http://centerstage.luther.edu. Ticket price is $15, $10 for seniors and students, free for Luther College students. Read more
Luther College to host community’s fifth annual Empty Bowls project
Luther College and the tri-state community will join together in March in an effort to fight hunger. The community’s fifth annual Empty Bowls project will be held Sunday, March 7, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the Center for the Arts on the campus of Luther College.
Potters in the tri-state area are making hundreds of handcrafted bowls for this year’s event, and the soup and bread for the Empty Bowls meal will be donated by many local restaurants, businesses and individuals. Read more

Funeral services for Ben Larson ’06 will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah by Rev. Steven M. Jacobsen with burial in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah. Visitation will be from 4-6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5 at First Lutheran Church and on Saturday after noon at the church. Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of the arrangements. Read more
A Tumor Shooter Trail Race is being held Sunday, Feb. 28 in Corvallis, Ore. to raise money for Johanna Olson ’01 who is battling a brain tumor. All proceeds from the event will go to Olson’s medical care. Jim Nussle ’83, has joined the advisory board of Avista Capital Partners. He is a former Iowa congressman who served as director of the White House Office of Management and Budget from 2007-09, and currently runs his own consultancy. Read more about Nussle at pehub.com.
Michael Beatty ’77, former publisher of the Baltimore Examiner and a veteran of the newspaper business, has been named publisher of The Joplin Globe.
