Paula R. Meyer, Timothy J. Oitzman
join Luther College Board of Regents
Luther College President Richard L. Torgerson has announced that Paula
R. Meyer of Minneapolis and Timothy J. Oitzman of San Diego have been
named to the Luther College Board of Regents, the governing body of the
four-year liberal arts college with an enrollment of 2,600 students.
Meyer, vice president of mutual funds and certificates at American Express
Corporation, and Oitzman, president of The Greystone Group, LLC, in San
Diego, will assume their board duties at the Sept. 28-30 regents meeting.
"We are pleased that Paula Meyer and Tim Oitzman will bring their
leadership skills to the Luther
Board of Regents," said President Torgerson. "As we complete
our strategic plan for Luther College and implement new ideas and methods
in liberal arts education, their knowledge and professional expertise
will be invaluable."
A 1976 graduate of Luther College, Meyer holds the master of business
administration degree from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School
of Business.
As vice president at American Express, Meyer is general manager for the
mutual funds and certificates lines, responsible for developing business
strategy, achieving income and sales goals and working with distribution
partners. She serves as president of American Express Certificate Company
and American Express International Deposit Corporation.
Meyer's career in the financial services industry began in 1981 with
the Vanguard Group of Investment Companies where she worked in product
development, retail marketing and customer service. From 1988-93 she worked
for SECURA Insurance company in Appleton, Wis., as marketing director
for insurance businesses and president of SECURA Investments, Inc.
In 1993 she joined Piper Capital Management, the investment management
firm affiliated with Piper Jaffray Companies. In 1997 she was named president
of Piper Capital Management.
Meyer and her husband, Kurtis Meyer, a 1976 Luther graduate, are the
parents of three children: Margaret, age 16; Eleanor, age 13; and Ethan,
age 10.
She has been active in community organizations. Co-founder of the Fox
Cities Children's Museum in Appleton in 1992, she received the Fox Cities
Pinnacle Award for Community Service in 1993. She serves on the board
of directors of Common Bond Communities, an organization committed to
development of affordable housing in Minnesota.
Meyer chairs Luther College's investment committee for the college's
endowment and leads a task group in the college's strategic planning project.
She received the Luther College Distinguished Service Award in 1996.
Timothy J. Oitzman, is president of The Greystone Group, LLC, a southern
California-based, private investment banking firm he established in 1996.
The Greystone Group
provides merger and acquisition advisory services for middle market companies.
The firm also provides industry tailored investment banking expertise
to domestic and international corporations, both public and private.
Oitzman is a 1987 graduate of Luther College with a bachelor's degree
in accounting. His 13-year career in investment banking includes service
as vice president of Strategic Capital, Inc. in San Francisco from 1990-96,
vice president of Jenson, Hahn and McCleery, Inc. in San Diego in 1989-90,
and financial planner with IDS Financial Services, Inc. in San Diego from
1987-89.
His professional experience includes strategic planning, merger and acquisition
advisory services and debt placement activities. In the past 10 years
he has managed 36 transactions valued at nearly $1.3 billion.
Oitzman serves as a lecturer in corporate finance at the University of
California at San Diego and serves on the technology advisory committee
of the Santa Fe Christian School. He is the publisher of a quarterly magazine,
The Greystone Insider, distributed to more than 2,000 executives in the
construction materials industry.
Residents of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., Oitzman and his wife, Molly Oitzman,
are the parents of two children: Teddy, age 3, and Megan, nine months.
The Oitzmans are members of Horizon Christian Fellowship church in Rancho
Santa Fe.
