Luther announces Phi Beta Kappa inductees

Luther College announced its 2003 Phi Beta Kappa inductees in a ceremony held April 6. See below for list of inductees.

Selection to Phi Beta Kappa honors juniors and seniors for outstanding academic achievement. Luther is among a select group of private liberal arts colleges that are Phi Beta Kappa institutions.

Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest and most respected undergraduate honors organization in the United States. The Society has fostered and recognized excellence in the liberal arts and sciences since 1776.

John Churchill, National Secretary (CEO) of the Phi Beta Kappa Society, presented the "Ruth A. Davis Memorial" Phi Beta Kappa Fellows Lecture at the induction ceremony, held April 6, in the Luther College Center for Faith and Life.

Churchill did his undergraduate work at Rhodes College, Memphis, and was a Rhodes scholar at Oxford. He completed his graduate work at Yale where he earned his Ph.D. A professor of philosophy, he taught at Hendrix College, Conway, Arkansas, and served as Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the College from 1984-2001.

Alicia Mohn of Cherokee, Iowa, was one of 49 Luther College seniors selected for induction into the college's Eta of Iowa Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society.

Mohn, the daughter of Jim and Connie Mohn of Cherokee, is majoring in management at Luther. She is a 1999 graduate of Washington High School.

Amber Ingalsbe of Paynesville, Minn., was one of 49 Luther College seniors selected for induction into the college's Eta of Iowa Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society.

Ingalsbe, the daughter of Dave and Barb Ingalsbe of Paynesville, is majoring in psychology and religion at Luther. She is a 1999 graduate of Paynesville Area High School.

Andrew Peter of Burt, Iowa, was one of 49 Luther College seniors selected for induction into the college's Eta of Iowa Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society.

Peter, the son of Duane and Linda Peter of Burt, is majoring in biology and chemistry at Luther. He is a 1999 graduate of Algona High School.

Andrew Ellingsen of Blue Earth, Minn., was one of 49 Luther College seniors selected for induction into the college's Eta of Iowa Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society.

Ellingsen, the son of Michael and Susan Ellingsen of Blue Earth, is majoring in music at Luther. He is a 1999 graduate of Blue Earth Area High School.

Andrew Nelson of Red Wing, Minn., was one of 49 Luther College seniors selected for induction into the college's Eta of Iowa Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society.

Nelson, the son of Steve and Marilyn Nelson of Red Wing, is majoring in religion and political science at Luther. He is a 1999 graduate of Red Wing High School.

Angela Wilson of Miles, Iowa, was one of 49 Luther College seniors selected for induction into the college's Eta of Iowa Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society.

Wilson, the daughter of Seth and Carla Wilson of Miles, is majoring in accounting at Luther. She is a 1999 graduate of East Central Community High School.

Anna Schwecke of Dearborn, Mich., was one of 49 Luther College seniors selected for induction into the college's Eta of Iowa Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society.

Schwecke, the daughter of Steve and Shirley Schwecke of Dearborn, is majoring in nursing at Luther. She is a 1999 graduate of Lutheran High School.

Fahrendorff, the daughter of Douglas and Judy Fahrendorff of Ellsworth, is majoring in management at Luther. She is a 1999 graduate of Ellsworth Senior High School.

Beth Willer of Huron, S.D., was one of 49 Luther College seniors selected for induction into the college's Eta of Iowa Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society.

Willer, the daughter of Bruce and Phyllis Willer of Huron, is majoring in music at Luther. She is a 1999 graduate of Huron High School.

Cherilyn Hyndman of Cherokee, Iowa, was one of 49 Luther College seniors selected for induction into the college's Eta of Iowa Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society.

Hyndman, the daughter of Patrick and Lynette Hyndman of Cherokee, is majoring in biology at Luther. She is a 1999 graduate of Washington High School.

Colleen Schmitt of Muscatine, Iowa, was one of 49 Luther College seniors selected for induction into the college's Eta of Iowa Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society.

Schmitt, the daughter of Jeff and Gina Schmitt of Muscatine, is majoring in English and Spanish at Luther. She is a 1999 graduate of Muscatine High School.

LeMaster, the son of Gary and Genevieve LeMaster of Iowa City, is majoring in biology and chemistry at Luther. He is a 1999 graduate of City High School.

Jespersen, the son of James A. and Kathleen Jespersen of Rock Valley, is majoring in biology and chemistry at Luther. He is a 1999 graduate of Rock Valley High School.

Lindsey Lane of Medford, Ore., was one of 49 Luther College seniors selected for induction into the college's Eta of Iowa Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society.

Lane, the daughter of Charles and Luann Lane of Medford, is majoring in biology at Luther. She is a 1998 graduate of South Medford High School.

Mark Anderson of Kenosha, Wis., was one of 49 Luther College seniors selected for induction into the college's Eta of Iowa Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society.

Striegel, the son of Phil and Rita Striegel of Williamsburg, is majoring in mathematics/statistics at Luther. He is a 1999 graduate of Williamsburg High School.

Julia Wymore of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was one of 49 Luther College seniors selected for induction into the college's Eta of Iowa Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society.

Wymore, the daughter of Paul and Mary Mann of Cedar Rapids, is majoring in biology at Luther. She is a 1999 graduate of Washington High School.
