Photographs by Julie Strom, Luther College instructor in art, have been selected for "The Autumn Exhibit," a display of artworks by four northeast Iowa artists. Sponsored by the Decorah Regional Arts Council, the exhibit will be shown Sept. 21- Nov. 30 at The Twisted Chicken Art Gallery and Restaurant in McGregor. Full story

Paul Gardner, professor of political science at Luther College, will present a Luther College Paideia Text and Issues Lecture on Thursday, Sept. 25, 7:30 p.m., in the Recital Hall of the Luther Center for Faith and Life.Gardner's lecture, titled "For the Powerless and the Different: A Case for the Universality of Liberal Democracy," is the first in a yearlong series. The Krasnoyarsk National Dance Company of Siberia will perform Thursday, Oct. 2, 7:30 p.m in the Luther College Center for Faith and Life. Tickets for the Krasnoyarsk National Dance Company performance, part of Luther College's 2003-04 Center Stage Series, go on sale Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Luther Box office, telephone (563) 387-1357. Ticket price is $18, $16 for seniors and students age 18 and younger. Full story

Robert Pinsky, Poet Laureate of the United States, essayist and teacher, will present the Luther College Distinguished Lecture on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Titled "Poetry in the Real World," Pinsky's lecture will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Luther Center for Faith and Life. Full story

Luther College student volunteers will help Decorah area residents with fall house cleaning, repair and winterizing chores Saturday, Oct. 4, when Luther College Ministries conducts its annual Fall Fling community assistance day. Full story

Laurie Iudin-Nelson, assistant professor of Russian studies at Luther College, has been awarded the Global Citizenship Award from Concordia Language Villages in recognition of her 20 years of outstanding service. Iudin-Nelson has served as dean of the Concordia program's Russian Village the past 15 years. Full story

Angela Egge has been named educational advisor with the Luther College Educational Talent Search program. Egge, who resides in Westby, Wis., holds the bachelor's degree in social work and the master's degree in school counseling from Winona State University. Full story

Luther College will host an astronomy observing session Friday, Sept. 19,
8:30-10:30 p.m., at Valders Hall of Science. The observing session is free and open to the public. It will be held on the Astronomy Observation Deck. Visitors may come to the Observation Deck any time during the two-hour session. Full story

"The Pond Farm Collection," artworks in clay, stoneware, earthenware, terracotta and acrylic by artists who studied under Marguerite Wildenhain at her Pond Farm facility near Guerneville, Calif., are on display at Preus Library on the campus of Luther College. Full story

The Rev. James Martin-Schramm, Ph.D., associate professor of religion at Luther College, is one of nine prominent religious leaders who will spend a week in China, Sept. 6-13, to investigate the role the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) plays in Chinese family planning. They will assess if UNFPA assistance fosters change in the Chinese program to increase choice in family planning and reduce elements of coercion. Full story

Maureen McGovern, Grammy nominated singer whose "Stradivarius Voice" made Oscar winners of two motion picture theme songs, will open Luther College's 2003-04 Center Stage Series on Saturday, Sept. 20, 7:30 p.m. McGovern will perform with the Luther College Jazz Band in the Center for Faith and Life on Luther's campus.
