Guest soprano Christine Seitz and Jessica Paul, pianist, will present "Beyond the Boundaries - Early 20th Century Vocal Music," on Sunday, Sept. 14, 4 p.m., in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music on the campus of Luther College.

The recital performance is open to the public with no charge for admission.

The program will include "Das Buch der hängenden Gärten, Op. 15" by Arnold Schoenberg, an excerpt from "Kátá Kabanová" by Leoš Janáèek, "Ludions" by Erik Satie, and "5 Liriche" by Ottorino Resphigi.

On Saturday, Sept. 13, 11 a.m., Seitz will introduce and share her insights into these selections of early 20th century music at a session in the Noble Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Seitz, formerly a member of the Luther music faculty, is a dramatic soprano who has sung operatic roles throughout the United States and Europe. Her recent opera performances include the role of Brünnhilde in Wagner's "Die Walküre" at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has also appeared with Kentucky Opera, the Florentine Opera of Milwaukee, the Dallas Opera, the Toledo Opera, Madison Opera, the Los Angeles Opera, the Seattle Opera and the Central City Opera.

She sang the leading role of Anna Clemenc in the world premiere of "The Children of the Keweenaw" at the 2001 Pine Mountain Music Festival and the title role in Faure's "Pénélope" in the United States stage premiere with Manhattan Opera in New York City. Her European engagements include Madame Lidoine in Poulenc's "Les Dialogues des Carmelites" with the Wuppertaler Bühnen and Amelia in Verdi's "Un Ballo in Maschera" with the Stadttheater Bern.

A two-time winner of the Eastern Wisconsin Metropolitan Opera District Auditions, Seitz has sung in numerous recitals in New York City and the Midwest. Her recital with pianist Steven Blier, "An Evening of American Song," was broadcast over New York public radio.

Seitz has performed as guest soloist with the Waukesha Symphony and as soprano soloist with the Greater Lansing Symphony Orchestra. She has appeared in concert with the Caramoor Festival, in concert performances at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and in performance with members of the Milwaukee Symphony under the baton of Maestro Kenneth Schermerhorn.

Seitz is a member of the faculty of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, teaching voice and opera. She also maintains private voice studios in Las Vegas, Nevada and Houghton, Mich.

Jessica Paul holds the bachelor of music degree in piano performance from Northwestern University. Paul received both the master of music and doctor of musical arts degrees in vocal accompanying and coaching from the University of Illinois.

Frequently engaged as a vocal accompanist, chamber musician, and guest clinician, Paul's recent projects include a performance of Ravel's "Five Greek Folk Songs" with soprano Maria Zouves on compact disc released under the VAI label.

As a vocal coach, Paul has worked with Pittsburgh Opera Theatre, Opera Theater of Illinois, National Opera Company, Virginia Opera Association and Lake George Opera Festival. She has appeared at the Pine Mountain Music Festival as chamber music pianist, guest conductor and vocal coach for the Young Artist Program.

In addition to her duties as principal conductor and artistic director of the Dorian Opera Theatre, Paul is assistant professor of music at Luther as vocal coach and teacher of accompanying.
